  • Refund may take longer even if you have not verified ITR

The income tax department has issued refunds to more than 38.23 lakh taxpayers from April 1 to October 20, usually, it takes 2 to 3 months to get an income tax refund.

The Income Tax Department (Income Tax Department) has issued a refund of Rs 1.25 lakh crore to more than 38.23 lakh taxpayers from April 1 to October 20. But there are many people who are still waiting for their refund. If your refund has not yet been received, there can be several reasons. We are telling you about the reasons for the delay.

1. Bank account must be pre-validated

Pre-validate (already verified) the bank account in which the income tax refund is to be made. After filing an Income Tax Return (ITR), if you have a refund, you get it through the Centralized Processing Center (CPC) of the Income Tax Department. This requires that your bank account be pre-validated so that there is no delay in getting refunds.

It does not take much time to verify returns

According to CA Abhay Sharma (former Chairman Indore Chartered Accountant Branch), you have filed the return on time. You also took care of other things. But you may not have verified ITR. Until you verify, your returns will not be processed. That is, it is necessary to verify the ITR you have filed. This can also cause delays in getting refunds.

2. Non-reply to income tax department email

A refund may also get stuck due to non-reply to e-mail sent by the Income Tax Department. In an e-mail sent by the Income Tax Department, taxpayers are asked for information about their outstanding demand, any difference in their bank account and refund. Even if you do not inform it at the right time, your refund can get stuck.

3. PAN must be linked to an account

Apart from pre-validation, it is also necessary that your account Permanent Account Number (PAN) is linked to the bank account. If it is not, then refund amount will not come in your account. If you want to claim a refund, then pre-validation of bank account and link to PAN is necessary. The Income Tax Department will issue only e-refunds and the refund amount will come only in those accounts which are linked to PAN.

These 7 mistakes have to be made while filing income tax returns, Income Tax Department can send notice

4. TDS mismatch

If you file a refund based on your records and Form 16 and your employer (employer) is not informed of the correct TDS. Refund is also delayed in case of TDS mismatch. Therefore, check the information related to TDS beforehand.

Can complain

If your refund request has not been rejected, but you have not received the refund till now, you can complain on the e-filing website. The ‘e-troubleshooting’ tab provides the facility to do so.

  • To register a complaint with the help of e-redressal, first of all, visit the e-filing portal of Income Tax Department http://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home.
  • ‘E-redressal’ link on the right upper corner of home page Have given. Click on it. After opening the e-troubleshooting page you will get 2 options.
  • Filing a new complaint or viewing the status of an old complaint.
  • You can file a complaint online with the help of PAN or TAN number. But if you do not have a PAN or TAN, then your complaint can be filed.
  • For this, you have to fill an e-redressal form in which your personal details, complaint details and related documents are asked for.
  • You can attach them with your request. After the complaint is registered, a PIN number comes on the registered mobile and email ID of the taxpayer, with the help of which they can see the status of their complaint.

Check your refund status like this

Taxpayers can visit https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html. To find the refund status, two details need to be filled here – PAN number and the year for which the refund is due. Now you have to fill the captcha code given below. After this click on Proceed, the status will come. Also log in to your Income Tax account in Taxpayer Income Tax Portal. After logging in My Accounts> Refund / Demand Status Click on it. Then fill in the assessment year for which you have to check the refund state.

What is the refund?

The company deducts an estimated part of the tax from its salary and pays it to the government account in advance while paying salaries to its employees throughout the year. Employees file income tax returns at the end of the year, in which they state how much they owe as taxes. If the actual liability is less than the amount of tax deducted earlier, the remaining amount is refunded to the employee.
